2022 Cub Scout Day Camp - Hightower Trail DIstrict

 

The Hightower Trail Cub Scout Day Camp registration is OPEN!!  Register now to reserve your spot: Tentaroo Registration (atlantabsa.org)

Please make sure you register your Cub Scout for the rank they will be in August, not their current rank (example: If they are currently a Tiger, they should register as a Wolf).  Also be sure to update their t-shirt size on the registration form, if needed.

Cub Scout Day Camp is a summer outdoor experience for Cub Scout youth in rising 1st through 5th grade.  Note that rising 1st graders (Tigers) must be accompanied by their adult partner while at Day Camp.

This year’s theme is the “Wild, Wild West!” and we have been working on an amazing program for your Cub Scouts.  We will have lots of surprise special guests and an array of activities to participate in – from archery and BBs to science experiments and obstacle courses!  Cub Scouts will have the opportunity to try new things as they work on elective adventures for their rank.  Most importantly, they will have FUN!!!

VOLUNTEERS:

We are in need of VOLUNTEERS!!  You can volunteer a day, a couple of days, or the entire week.  Day Camp is ENTIRELY led by volunteers, so please help out if you are able. It is SUPER FUN!!  You can share a skill or activity with the Cub Scouts (we will provide the supplies you need), lead a den of 8-10 Cub Scouts through various activity stations throughout the day, lead a nature hike, help with registration, or lead/assist with an activity station.  To volunteer, please REGISTER as an Adult Volunteer or Youth Volunteer on the day camp registration site (Tentaroo Registration (atlantabsa.org)).  Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and day camp patch.

Youth volunteers can serve as den chiefs, assist activity leaders (help with rockets, shooting sports, STEM, obstacle course, nature hike, map skills, games, etc.), help set up/break down day camp, refill water stations, or assist with carpool.

All volunteers need to complete Youth Protection Training online (72 minutes) and attend the Volunteer training on Saturday, June 4th at 9:00 am.

Remember, if you have a rising 1st grader, that Tiger will need to have an adult partner all week, so this isn’t your year to volunteer. We hope you will love it and come back as a volunteer next year!

Volunteer Position Descriptions

Den Leader

Den Leaders travel with the same group of kids all week, helping them get to the right place, managing positive discipline, and overseeing lunch time. You’ll have a BSA Scout (older kid/teen) assigned to help you.

Activity Leader

Activity leaders work at different activity stations, like crafts, obstacle course, map reading, nature hike, STEM, and more. Do you have an area of interest or expertise you’d like to share? Let us know and maybe you can lead an activity sharing this with the Cub Scouts! These positions can be all week, just one day, or something in between. You’ll have BSA Scouts assigned to help you during the activity.

Craft Director

The Craft Director works with the Program Director to develop engaging arts and craft activities for the week. During the week, they oversee adult and youth volunteers who help them lead the Cub Scouts in these crafts.

Tot Lot Director

The Tot Lot director watches over younger, potty-trained children of those volunteering, typically ages 3-5. They participate in activities like crafts, nature walks, and other activities at your discretion. They are also the only group allowed on the fenced-in playground and to use the flush toilet located in the Scout Hut/craft building.

Scout Master

Like working with older children and teens? This is the job for you! We have many Scouts who volunteer their time and youthful energy throughout the week, and an adult who can help guide that energy is key! You would work with these volunteers and help them know where to be.

Substitute Den Leader / Helper where needed

Can you only volunteer one or more days? We are still very, very happy to have you! There’s always a need for someone who can step in when someone is sick or has a schedule conflict. Many hands make light work.

There are many other roles, such as Camp Director, Program Director, Health Officer and Shooting Sports Director that we have filled this year, but if you are interested in serving in one of these ways in the future, please let us know!

This Murphey Candler Park community event raises awareness for on-going park conservation efforts, volunteer opportunities, Brookhaven Parks Bond initiative, Brookhaven Tree Canopy and Brookhaven Public Work’s Watershed Study improvements.

Local conservation groups will be on-hand to show and explain their environmental goals, projects, and educational programs.

Trees Atlanta, Chattahoochee Riverkeepers, Metro Atlanta Beekeepers, Atlanta Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, National Parks Service, GA Native Plant Society, The Amphibian Foundation, Mushroom Club of GA, and more.

Local Sports Leagues and Scout Troops will provide updates on their meetings, leagues, camps, upcoming seasons, and registration.
